2024Fault line
The world's largest underground iron mine, Kiruna alone supplies about 80% of the iron ore mined in the European Union. Its vulnerability is logistical as much as mining: production fell 13% in 2024 after accidents on the single railway (Malmbanan) linking the mine to the ports of Narvik and Luleå. A single line connects Europe's largest iron deposit to the rest of the world.
