Fault line

Brazil exported around 18.6 Mt of wood pulp in 2024, by far the world's largest exporter ; Suzano alone, with 13.5 Mt/yr of capacity, holds close to a third of the global short-fibre eucalyptus pulp market. This pulp is a base input for paper, packaging board and cellulosic textiles such as viscose. The lock lies in that geographic and industrial concentration: a handful of Brazilian producers weigh on a link on which global packaging and hygiene depend. The July 2024 start-up of the Cerrado mega-mill widened that lead further.
