Natural rubber, irreplaceable for aircraft and heavy-truck tyres, where synthetic will not do, comes about 70% from three Southeast Asian countries. Thailand alone supplies nearly 36%. Grown on small rubber-tree plantations vulnerable to fungal disease and climate disruption, this supply is tightening: the 2024 shortages were a reminder that no industrial redundancy replaces the tree.
