Flat glass (float), China

China concentrates more than half of world flat (float) glass production according to industry estimates, and over 60% of all glass according to Chinese sources, with a large share of active float lines. This glass is both the glazing of buildings and the cover layer, the heaviest component, of solar panels. The global energy transition therefore depends in part on a highly concentrated sector where capacity, prices and solar-glass suppliers are predominantly Chinese.
