2nd world producer; 2023/24 harvest nearly halved
2024Fault line
The second pillar of world cocoa supply, Ghana saw its 2023/24 harvest nearly halved under the effect of disease, smuggling and ageing plantations. Together with neighbouring Côte d'Ivoire, the country concentrates about 60% of world cocoa: two West African states hold the upstream of the entire chocolate industry. Galamsey moreover eats into cocoa land in favour of illegal gold.
