The liquid injected before a CT scan or a coronary angiogram comes, for half of the US market, from a single GE HealthCare plant in Shanghai. In April 2022 a Covid lockdown shut it down: hospitals worldwide faced up to 80% of orders unfilled and rationed imaging for weeks. Supply returned to normal only in February 2023. Three other players (Bracco, Guerbet, Bayer) exist but could not absorb the shock.
