Each GB200 NVL72 rack carries more than 5,000 very high-speed copper cables, nearly three kilometres, linking 72 GPUs via Amphenol's NVLink backplane. Nvidia chose copper over optics to save megawatts, shifting the bottleneck to the 224 Gb/s connectors, whose capacity struggles to keep up.
