Indicative delayed market price: a tension gauge, distinct from the physical flow. A rise signals the input tightening.
Fault line
The United States has been the world's largest natural gas producer since 2009 (nearly 38 trillion cubic feet of dry gas in 2024) and the world's largest LNG exporter (11.9 billion cubic feet per day in 2024, ahead of Australia and Qatar). Output comes mainly from the Permian Basin in Texas and the Marcellus play in Appalachia, with exports flowing through Gulf Coast terminals. Since 2022 this supply has become a pillar of European sourcing after Russian flows fell, making US export permits and decisions a point of dependence for the EU. Terminal saturation or a regulatory freeze would quickly weigh on world gas prices.
