PsiQuantum bets that only semiconductor-foundry-scale manufacturing will produce the billions of components of a fault-tolerant photonic computer, hence its production on silicon wafers at GlobalFoundries. The approach shifts the fragility to the CMOS foundry and to superconducting single-photon detectors, which bring cryogenics back into the loop.
