Chinese pork, heart of food security

China produces nearly half the world's pork, a meat central to its diet and a pillar of its food security. The herd remains exposed to African swine fever, which wiped out roughly a third of output between 2018 and 2020; any fresh wave revives Chinese imports and tightens the entire global meat market.
