Ready-made garments, Bangladesh (RMG)

Bangladesh is the world's second-largest garment exporter, $38.5 billion in 2024, about 7% of the market, behind China alone. Apparel accounts for more than 80% of its exports and supports four million workers, the vast majority women. This hyper-specialisation, backed by some of the world's lowest wages and a workforce concentrated around Dhaka, makes the country vulnerable to any social, climatic or logistical shock, as the 2024 unrest showed.
