The Galkynysh field, one of the world's largest gas deposits, feeds China via the Central Asia–China pipeline. About 90% of Turkmen exports go to a single customer, Beijing, through three lines delivering nearly 40 billion m³ per year; the planned Line D would raise the total to 65 Gm³. This mutual dependence, China secures its pipeline gas, Ashgabat has almost no other outlet, locks Turkmenistan into an energy tête-à-tête.
