Fault line

Catalent, a reference contract manufacturer for the sterile fill-finish of injectables, was acquired by Novo Holdings for $16.5bn (closing 18 December 2024), which immediately sold three sites, Bloomington, Brussels, Anagni, to Novo Nordisk for $11bn. The Bloomington site had accumulated five FDA observations (Form 483) in November 2023, including the presence of pests on a sterile line. The deal removes a neutral third-party capacity from the market for the exclusive benefit of Novo's GLP-1s, tightening the fill-finish bottleneck.
