Indicative delayed market price: a tension gauge, distinct from the physical flow. A rise signals the input tightening.
Fault line
The February 2022 invasion blocked nearly all of Ukraine's maritime exports, revealing that close to 30% of the world's exported wheat transited through the Black Sea. The Grain Initiative allowed 32.9 Mt to be shipped from Odesa before the Russian withdrawal and the strikes on the ports. Traffic has since depended on a unilateral Ukrainian corridor hugging the Romanian coast, under permanent military threat.
